Design Technology
In design technology class this quarter we create a modernized traditional toys made out of wood. It can be seen through my journal all of the process I did to create my modernized traditional toy. After creating it our testing method was playing it to the kindergarten and observe them if the toys works well towards the children. We are assessed from criteria A, B, C, D, and E. I personally think my best work would be on Criteria E evaluation.
Reflection
Score: 5/6
I choose criterion E for my best sample of work even though I didn't get a maximum score because I'm proud of it that I achieved to be one of the students to get a high mark on criteria E. It was quite challenging with the details we have to put in order to get a good score but I maintained to get 5/6. However, I could improve by being more details in each specifications and impact. Overall this quarter for all Criteria I'm satisfied with it overall all my scores wasn't below 4. Mostly I could improve on my creating process towards the neatness and safety. But overall I averaged a good score on DT class
Holistic learning:
From Q2 DT class there are several subjects that can be related to our assignment, such as math, since we deal with measurements in designing and creating , calculating amount of total money and approximate time in planning, this is also related to physics as we think about the force from the weight which occurs in safety or strength of the toy (ACCESS FM). Also this subject related to art class which occurs during designing (criteria B) as we should also think creatively. During designing it's quite challenging to think of creative design that could also meet all the design specification. So we must to expand our mind in creating a creative design. As in real world issue it can be related to innovation and open-minded. This two aspects are related since in thinking something innovative we need to be open-minded to critically and/or expand our mind to another level in order to success in creating or designing an innovation.
In this subject it develops the understanding of development, communication, perspective, creativity, and aesthetic. Relating it the concept development we develops our skills throughout all the process. Development occurs as a whole understanding throughout all the process as we develop a certain skills. During researching we develop our skills by understanding some specifications and samples to be ready on the next process. In designing we develop our creativity by thinking of development of a traditional toy to be modernized. During creating process we develop our strength in wood cutting and develop our wood crafting skills to create a neat and a precised product. During testing method we develop our teaching skills as we communicate with the kindergarten students. In testing method it is also related to communication and perspective as we develop our communication in communicating with little kids which is also useful for our future. We also develop our understanding by identifying the difference of our perspective and the kindergarten students towards our toys. Kindergarten perspective are very different as they have different knowledge and skills. We also develops the understanding towards creativity as it is also related to innovation, where we think creativity to be innovative and apply it to our product. This is of course related to aesthetic as we develop our understanding through research (criteria A) towards aesthetic. By developing the understanding of aesthetic we could apply it on our design product to meet all the design specification since aesthetic is one of it. Developing the understanding towards mastery of skills would occurs research, social, thinking, self-management, and communication. In researching I use some reliable and valid resources, therefore I learned and/or develop in choosing the right source that fits my goal. In social I develop as I collaborate with the teacher for the validity of my design, then after knowing which design(s) are valid I increase my awareness towards the expectation of the product outcome the teacher is expecting. Thinking as I develop my thinking skills by expanding my mind in innovating my toy (open-minded). In self-management I develop my organisation skills as I organize my own time to successfully submit my toy on time, I also organized time to reflect back on what I did (journal). In communication I develop it by communicating with the kindergarten as I teach them how to play my toy in order to develop their skills in certain area. The attitude I present during this project would be enthusiasm, curiosity , and creativity. Creativity it's already one of the attitude we should develop throughout the whole process as we innovate our toy. Curiosity is developed as we have the curiosity of various innovation that we could apply it on our toy, in the end we finalize which design fits. We should have enthusiasm during our testing method as we should treat the kindergarten with enthusiasm so they would be enthusiast as well in playing our toys. In conclusion throughout all of the development it relates to AOI human ingenuity, because innovation itself have influenced the world. We modernized a traditional toy therefore we are finding solutions to innovate a traditional toy to make more attractive, fun, and develop skills more effective. We thought on something creative and innovative in designing our modernized traditional toy (thought )and we create it exactly the same with our design or prototype for the kindergarten students (action). So we influenced the kindergarten students as we develop their skills by creating a innovative or modernized traditional toy which definitely related to human ingenuity.
In my opinion this project have been very challenging and relevant. It is very clear that its relevant to the AOI human ingenuity since the topic is about innovation which influence our world.The most challenging part would be during creating process it is very challenging especially for me it is my first experience in working with woods. I never thought before that cutting wood wouldn't be that hard but it turns out it's very challenging to cut it accurately and neat. I end up repeating some steps until the shape or structure is neat. It was also tiring as we use our strength to cut the woods and the environment temperature is quite hot. We also have limited time (3 weeks), which we should organize and/or work fast in order to submit it right on time. Overall everything it is a challenging project.
