Science
Most of the topic we learn in science quarter 1 is about atoms, we learn many things about atoms (ions, trends of periodic table, electronegativity, bonding, and more). One of the project we did is an IDU with humanities, is a project about metal in Indonesia. So we should know the components of the metal elements and discuss of their uses in science and social uses. To relate to humanities we should relate the effect of the metals to the population. Does the metals in Indonesia enriches people to come or not.. It is in a form of poster so I can't put it here. But below is my lab report of an chromatography experiment before learning about atom. So partly of quarter we also learn about colors through chromatography, we research some experiment could be use and apply it.

Lab Report: Chromatography
Introduction:
Chromatography is a method of separating pigments (colored substances) using filter paper, identify substances in a mixture and purifying them. The filter paper has to be pure white- not pale grey to get better separated color. Different compounds will have different effects on the chromatography paper's distance, depending on the strength of the interaction with the paper. Rf value, is the measurement of the distance that the sample had traveled. The formula for an Rf value is migration distance of solvent front divided by migration distance of substance. An Rf value is the distance the pigment travels from the original spot, which is the dot, of solvent distance to the solvent front.
Research Question:
How does a different type of paper affect the Rf value?
Objective:
To find it different types of paper will affect the measured Rf value
Hypothesis:
The explanation why is the different paper will show the separating color appears clearer or not and how far they travel from the solvent. My hypothesis of the result will shown that the soft paper (tissue) will make the color separated not that clear, travel shorter from the solvent and will have less Rf value. The filter paper which has thicker substance made the color separating clearer and travel farther from the solvent and more Rf value.
Variables:
Independent variable:
Type of paper
Materials:

b. The baseline is above the 30 ml line on the beaker.

Variables:
Independent variable:
Type of paper
- Filter paper
- Paper Towel
- Plain paper
- Newsprint paper
- Facial Tissue
- Maximum Rf value
- Time in solvent
- Same pen
- Amount of ink (controls clearness)
- Amount of solvent (controls how deep the solvent is in a given beaker)
Materials:
- 150 ml Alcohol 70% (30 ml per beaker)
- 1x Filter paper
- 1x Coffee filter paper
- 1x Tissue paper
- 1x Newsprint paper
- 1x Plain paper
- Tape
- 1x 100 ml measuring cylinder
- 5x 100 ml beaker
- 1x Eyedropper (just in case we can’t see)
- 4x pair latex gloves
- 1x timer/stopwatch
- 1x Pencil
- 5x Any kind of rod (stirring rod, pen, pencil)
- 1x Ink pen
- 1x Scissors
- 1x 30 cm ruler
Preparation
- For each of the five pieces of paper, use a pencil to draw a line two centimeters from the place which will be the short edge of the cuts. This is the baseline.
- For each of the five pieces of paper, cut into three strips 6.5 cm by 1 cm each (don't mark with ink)
- For each of the fifteen pieces of paper, draw a dot with the pen on the baseline.
- Tape the fifteen pieces of paper to the five rods. Three pieces of the same type of paper go to one rod.
- Put the "rod assembly" into an empty beaker and adjust it to make sure that:
b. The baseline is above the 30 ml line on the beaker.
- Repeat step five for the other rod assemblies
- For each of the five beakers, measure 30 ml of alcohol with the measuring cylinder (using the eyedropper if necessary) and pour it into the beaker
- Insert the five rod assemblies into the five beakers (one assembly per beaker)
- Since timing is not very critical, we can start the timer now.
- Watch the experiment. When the solvent front nears the top of the paper, or when the timer shows 20 minutes, remove the rod assembly from the beaker.
- With the ruler, measure the distance of the solvent front from the baseline.
- Also measure the distance from the baseline to the center of the top most spot.
- Calculate the Rf value as per above.

Explanation
The filter paper, paper towel and tissue paper travel almost the same rate and higher than the other paper. The pattern looks like just because the characters of those 3 papers are smoother than the plain paper and newsprint paper
Evaluation
The smooth paper and white in color like tissue paper could travel higher because of the interaction with the solvent faster but the color reaching the center is blurring. When the texture of paper is not really smooth and less flexible like filter paper then it travels higher too but the color reaching the center is clearer. Different with newspaper travel less and giving less clear color because of its grey in color
Conclusion
Conclusion
When I put different kind of paper in the solvent, those made different result depending on a character of the paper which is smooth or rough surface then will give the different rates of result in reaching the Rf value
Evaluation
To make the travel higher and give the best separating and purifying the color it is better to use the texture like filter paper which is not really smooth, soft and less flexible. So the texture of the paper is important base on this experiment.
Extension
In the future to make this experiment more successful it would be better if every member of the group measure the Rf value to be more accurate with the measured result. Because with more people we can check their results of the measured Rf value and make sure we have the same result to have an accurate answer for every tries with different paper

Reflection
First we investigate or research about the experiment could be apply (concept of color substance). After we find one we apply the experiment, we use our knowledge to resolve issues and to succeed on the experiment. After we finish, we make an report about it to apply this experiment to other societies.
AOI
When doing the experiment we work as a community where we interact with each other to succeed the experiment. So in this one group or community there are a lot of problems that could fail the experiment so we evaluate each other and find out our roles to fix the experiment. Than we find ourselves to work together as one community, help and support each other than finally we could accomplish the experiment.
