Designing building in 2d and 3d
Usually designing building in 2D and 3D can be done by sketching, where designing 2D buildings using scale paper and precisely match the scale, also desinging 3D buildings that can be drawn in sketch matching the perspective. But now in the modern era designing buildings both 2D and 3D can be done in a software. In a software the scale is automatically provided and it is easier to be precise towards the scale since it is automatic. Designing 3D its also easier because it is provided the tools to make 3D buildings such as walls, roof, windows, and others and it is perfectly drawn according to your design. But even though there is software, sketching still occurs in this era. The disadvantage of using software that it is required to master it before using it, because when there is no knowledge of using the software wouldn't design a proper building. So mastering the software is a major factor, than choosing the fit software. There are many software in designing building for architects and each software have its own capabilities. Such as sketch-up; it is easy to design 3D buildings with it, Vectorworks; capable designing fancy and complex design but for professional, Autocad; capable designing both 2D and 3D design easily (according to its version), and there are more software available for designing building. In the end I choose one software that suits me and I choose autocad.
AutoCADAutocad is one of the software application for both 2D and 3D designing building created by Michael Riddle. CAD stands for computer aided design. The first release available in 1982 until now it released 2014 version in March 2013. In the release of Autocad 2007, it is the biggest updates where the 3D modelling improved, provided with better navigation when working in 3D
Advantages of AutoCAD:
Disadvantages of AutoCAD - Line: editing and overlapping lines and lineweights is limited to a few options. - Limited file formats it limits the number of file formats it can import or export - Color, fill, and texture the application limits the number of possible colors to 256 and the it provides only a handful of textures, so you cannot create photo realistic images like illustration programs. - Non-Parametic it provides tools to create three-dimensional models, but editing the models requires many steps, unlike BIM parametric models, which automatically adjust all of the model components while editing elements. Why AutoCADSo I choose AutoCAD because as you can see from one of the advantages; "can be use for beginners, students, and professional." I'm still a beginner because it the first time I use this software, if this suits for beginners it suits for me. Other software such as sketch-up can be for students too, but I choose autocad over sketch-up because Autocad also provides 2D design. This software also saves time which great because I need to use my time efficiently in the creating process. When I see the disadvantages, it is not a big deal to handle. It's something that can be handle during the process.

Interview (autocad)
After had a much of understanding towards architecture I started having course (AutoCAD architecture software) at 10th of August. I started taking the course late due to my busyness travelling for holiday. So I’ve just taken the course for just 3 days. In three days it is enough to at least know the basics designing the building in 2D and 3D. I understand how to use the tools in proper way with right steps. But it just still basic and a little bit advances, it wouldn’t be enough knowledge to design a great building. So I learn more from YouTube videos and from the video guides provided by the software. I’m still taking course every weekend to be able to do more in designing using the software. But I’m just afraid that it wouldn’t catch up with my planning since it took a longer time to learn the software, so for back up I’m still trying to find an ebook, book, or dvd of AutoCAD architecture guide, fundamentals, or directions.
I also interview my teacher in the course with just one question. It is not really a question though, I was just explaining what my design wanted to be like which is a fancy design. A design with a very different shape like other buildings. But then my teacher was not sure that Autocad (the software I chose) is capable to design the building I want. It is too complex and autocad wasn’t the right fit. Yet Autocad is the right software for a student so I won’t change the software. My teacher told me Vector (architecture software) is the right one in making a complex design but then it is for advance or professional architects. But then I will try my best to design an attractive modern building.
How to design a 2d and 3d building?
- What architecture software to use?
- What are the requirements to create a good quality design
- Duration of designing the building
Interview:
Questions:
1. What is the suitable software to design building both 2d and 3d design?
2. What is a good quality design?
3. Is it better to sketch manually or through software?
4. How long does it take to design?
5. How long does it take to master the software?
6. Other than taking course what can I do to learn using the software?
Response:
1. There are many software for architects, but autocad suits the best for student to develop
2. A good quality design consist of the use of the scale, the scale should be precise, neat, and can be imagine easily or memorable
3. As a student like you its better to do through software, when you’re a professional maybe you should sketch
4. Depends on your effort, if designing both 2d and 3d design every day, you can finish in 1 month and couple of week with normal effort.
5. In course it takes 16 hours
6. You can find youtube tutorials or books, a book would be better.
